The Road to Democracy in South Africa project, managed by the South African Democracy Education Trust (SADET), began in 2000, and has become the most comprehensive and systematic investigation of South Africa liberation history to date. The South African Democracy Education Trust (SADET) Collection available in Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa includes the front matter and table of contents, as well as selected chapters, from each of the first four SADET volumes, made available to JSTOR by SADET. The chapters were selected to help fill gaps in the coverage of the Struggles for Freedom in Southern Africa Collection. In terms of international solidarity, this allowed the inclusion of extensively documented chapters by leading scholars on the roles of Ireland, the Soviet Union, and the German Democratic Republic. The chapters selected from the 1960s focused on the turn to armed struggle in 1960 and the ANC’s strategic Morogoro conference in 1969. The chapters selected from the 1970s focus on the labour movement and on the ANC underground during that decade. And the five interviews selected include Joe Matthews, Peter Hlaole Molotsi, James April, Shanti Naidoo, and Joyce Sikhakhane.
